Premium Waterfall Pumps

smartpond® Premium Waterfall Pumps operate at peak performance thanks to a highly-optimized design that prevents potentially harmful large debris, ranging from twigs to leaves, from entering the pump. This pre-filtration mechanism ensures uninterrupted operation, for uninterrupted flowing waterfalls.

Pre-filter shell

The included pump sits securely inside the pre-filter shell, improving performance and reducing maintenance by protecting the pump from debris up to 1/4 in. The shell also creates a stable base.

Vertical design

These pumps can be used vertically in skimmer boxes and pump vaults, or submerged in ponds. The integrated handle on the shell makes it easy to lift the pump.

How to Select a Waterfall Pump 

Choosing the right pump is essential. A pump that is too strong will create a turbulent flow, while a weak pump won’t give the full waterfall effect. Be sure to check the pump’s specification for the ideal pumping height at the head, or top, of your waterfall.

TIP: Excessive bending or in-line filters will reduce the flow. Smaller tubing equals more pressure at the head, increasing flow.

The rule of thumb is for every 1 in. of spillway width, you need:
100 gallons per hour flow (at the head!) to achieve a “sheet” look.  
Divide by two for a “trickle” look.  
Multiply by two for a “Niagara” look.  

For example, our 8 in. Spillway requires the following flows at the head:
8 in. x 100 = 800 GPH (sheet)
800/2 = 400 GPH (trickle)
800 x 2 = 1,600 GPH (Niagara)
