The job of the pump is to help keep your pond clean and healthy for fish and plant life. smartpond® Pond Pumps can accommodate ponds with as little as 200 gallons of water up to ponds with 1,200 gallons of water, but how do you know which to choose?
In order to maintain beautiful water in your water feature, you need to keep the water moving. A pump will prevent stagnant waters that can lead to bad odors and mosquitoes nesting in your pond. Plus, you can add water features such as a nozzle or spitter.
How to Select a Pond Pump
Your pond pump should circulate the entire volume of your pond once per hour. For example, a 200 gallon pond needs a pump that's at least 200 GPH (gallons per hour).
How to calculate pond capacity: For circular ponds, measure in feet the Diameter x Diameter x Depth x 5.9 = Total Gallons
For rectangular ponds, measure in feet the Length x Width x Depth x 7.5 = Total Gallons
